10 essential prom tips

Who needs Prom tips? You need prom tips. Leave it all to JRendoor to give you your Fifteen Minutes of Prom-Fab!

1.Reading is Detrimental. Put down that stale issue of Seventeen Magazine, Burn that useless copy of Lucky Girl, and Avoid Teen People Magazine like it’s the plague. Taylor Swift does not know anymore about proms than you do. She did not even go to prom!!! Its time for you fashionistas to move on from candy-colored dresses and put together an outfit that is trés chic and red carpet ready.

2. Go Green- keep your hair ozone friendly. This season there is an emphasis on natural beauty. Your hair is the best place to keep it simple. Spraying your hair into a voluminous fire hazard is not attractive. Stiff hair never looks right. So, keep it simple!!! Throw a little mousse in your shower-damp hair and then blow it out with your hair dryer. Use a round bristle-brush to style accordingly. If curls are your thang, then please make them look natural!!! Shirley Temple style spring curls are so silly looking. For a soft and natural look use a wide flat iron as a curler and wrap your hair around the width of the brush. So, skip the helmet hair and pin curls and go Eau Natural!

3. You are not Cyndi Lauper. Go easy on the make up. You chicas that are going to high school proms are around 18 years old. Beauty at this age should look Natural. Use a neutral palate to emphasize your youthful glow. Eye make up should be light and smoky- and your eye shadow should NOT match your dress. Hells to the no. Wear a sheer gloss on your lips instead of a chunky lipstick. The lighter your make up is, the fresher you look.

4. Mac-N-Cheez is not a skin tone. Spray tans are not a necessity. Orange skin makes you look like your suffering from Jaundice. If you must get a fake tan, do so at least 72 hours before prom. In other words- if your prom is on a Friday, go to the tanning salon on Wednesday. That way the excessive orange tone will have washed away and you’ll look pseudo-normal.

5. You should have nails- not claws. Three-inch rep-tipped acrylic nails looked great on Anna Nicole Smith. Ladies, do not follow her example. Keep the press-ons at a normal length, and opt for either a neutral color or a classic red (whichever compliments your dress best).

6. Day-glo is not classy. If your dress looks like it can glow in the dark, then do not let it see the light of day. Neon is designated for Fast-Food signs, not evening wear. So please, back away from the day-glo.

7. Mid-length is Mediocre. Some divas take a leap of faith with their prom dress and decide to go short. That’s ok- but short means short!!! The hem of a short dress should sit about six inches above your knee. This guarantees that you wont look short and stubby. If you’re a traditionalist and want a long gown, then wear a LONGGG gown. A floor length gown with a bit of a train is the way to go. Showing your ankles like a Victorian rebel makes your dress look awkward.

8. Spanx!!! That is not a dirty word. In fact, that word should be in your everyday fashion vocabulary. Spanx are the greatest thing since sliced whole grain bread. They are the miracle garments that trim your curves and give you a seamless hourglass figure. They work so well that no one noticed Oprah fattened up again until Oprah acknowledged her girth. Like I said- they are a miracle.

9. Shoes. Shoes are simple: No wedges, No boots, no flats, and no clear light up platforms- save those for church. Strappy stilettos and peep-toe pumps are a classic way to add an edgy flair to your dress without looking like a stripper.

10. Cheap is Chic. Who says you need to break the bank on your prom attire??? Splurging is a fashion don’t in today’s economy. If your looking for a dress that Über couture yet inexpensive, then look no further than your local vintage shop!!! One diva’s trash is another diva’s treasure. Vintage and thrift shops located near affluent communities are VERY likely to carry designer pieces. If you are determined to buy a brand new dress, go to a discount store. No, not TJ Maxx. Here is a list of places that can help you stay trés chic and trés chic:

- Loehmanns (dresses, shoes)

- Daffy’s (dresses, shoes)
- Century 21 (head to toe)

- Zappos.com (shoes)

- Chinese Laundry.com (shoes)

- MjM (shoes)

- DSW (shoes)
- E.L.F. (Make up)

Good luck divas.

Work.
